Then, we will discuss What is Religion (linked above). 

Next, you will select 3 questions from each side of the read like a... reader and writer.  Discuss your answers and then write a statement that answers the question:

Finally, examine the belief systems of polytheism and monotheism. (linked below)

You will be reading this riveting article outlining the origins of religions across the globe. Then, write down the questions in your notebook and prepare to share out your thoughts!

You will examine eight situations that you can be exposed to. For each situation, follow the main idea from the major doctrine/belief to create an appropriate response.

 

For example, if you saw something happen, a Taoist who ‘keeps it simple’ would walk away and not get involved. The last column is left blank. This column is for you to create their own response that shows their personal beliefs.

  • Use articles provided to research the civilization's religion and its influence in the society.

  • Review and discuss your findings with others who studied the same civilization.

  • Design and write your pamphlet. Highlight the key features of the religious belief system. The pamphlet should include descriptions of principal deities, rituals, festivals, and creation accounts or legends. If completing in a small group, allocate writing assignments and responsibilities. Be sure to proofread and edit the text before assembling your pamphlet.

  • Review pamphlets on the civilizations that you did not research. Be prepared to discuss the similarities and differences between these belief systems and how each functioned in their respective civilizations.

Today we will begin our next part of our unit focusing on historical figures. Students will read the story of Mansa Musa on pages 484 - 487 in the textbook.  Then, they will follow up the story reading Section 2 in the textbook (pages 494-499).
