How Writing Reflected Culture
- Today you will start investigating what you hope “To Discover” and make a list.
- Study using the video links provided in the handout about writing in the various civilizations.
- As you watch, place important ideas into one of the following boxes: cultural reflection and transformation in society.
- On the lines below, create a “Gist Statement,” about what you think writing has done for a civilization.

Digital Gallery Walk
Students will be conducting a digital gallery walk for five of the ancient civilizations. Once students complete the five stations, they will complete the Process On Your Own Activity.

You will examine the architecture of various civilizations. You will use a variety of readings, videos and images to determine how architecture reflected the culture, and transformed the civilization.

Art, Literature, & Entertainment
Students will read excerpts of literature from various ancient civilizations to evaluate the ways the literature expressed cultural values.
Then, discover the ancient entertainment of the Romans.

Wednesday
Science & Technology
Students will research how science and technology impacted ancient civilizations.
Each group will create a slide to answer and support their assigned question using facts and examples.

Mathematics
Solve Me: Ancient Civilizations Math Problems.

Students will work in groups or individually to solve math problems using the mathematical systems of the Egyptians, Babylonians, Mayan, Shang, Hindu-Arabic, and Romans.

Medicine
Students will read and/or watch video clips on the use of medicine in 3 civilizations. Students will identify the how medicine use was alike and how they are different with regards to 3 specific areas.
